STEMified Staff
In February, the Lincoln Heights staff hosted Dr. Laura Bottomley from NC State's The Engineering Place to lead a wonderful STEM staff development. The teachers completed various STEM activities like Straw Rockets, Bug Labyrinth and Constructing Parachutes! Teachers then had time to collaborate and plan STEM lessons with their grade levels.
4th Grade GeologistsThe Fourth Graders enjoyed an in-school field trip hosted by Science Fun for Everyone! The students worked hard to mine out their rocks and then classify each type of rock/mineral based on close observations! Thank you to Scientist Kim for leading our students in an exciting, interactive investigation!
1st Grade Engineer Plant PackagesThe first grade students in Ms. Green and Mrs. Davis' class worked hard to create plant packages to send to Brentwood Elementary. The students used EiE (Engineering is Elementary) kits to learn their science content through the engineering design process. Students had to collaborate, problem solve and create a package that allowed their class plants to survive the journey to Brentwood Elementary. Our first grade students will skype with their friends at Brentwood to determine if their package was successful later this week!
For more information on EiE kits check out: www.eie.org 21st Century LibraryWelcome back to Lincoln Heights! Students learn the rules of the library by scanning QR codes and watching videos created by our Librarian, Mrs. Bobay!
STEM GrantMrs. Prentice (formerly Ms. Neville) and Ms. Fletcher (Administrative Intern) gratefully received a $3,475.50 grant from Drive Education NC. These funds will go towards purchasing EIE (Engineering is Elementary) kits. These kits will help our teachers integrate STEM education within their classrooms.
